Concrete serves many purposes in our everyday lives. Here’s what makes Elevation Concrete Studio’s creations different.
How is Elevation’s concrete different from other concrete countertops?
By definition, concrete is a blend of cement, gravel, sand, and water. Our mix design and process is unique as we restrict the use of large aggregates, like gravel, and only add ingredients that ornamentally enhance the finished work. The result is concrete with a beautiful, even-textured finish, but with a core of enhanced strength and durability.
What is different about your mix design that makes it ideal for countertop surfaces?
Formulated specifically for use in countertops, our mix design creates a smooth, refined finish with low luster and natural appearance. Our ingredients include select fine dry sand, the highest quality cement, minimal water, and a polymer additive to enhance strength and performance. We use only the latest technology sealers, specifically designed for countertop use, which provide the highest quality protective finish. Despite the higher cost of materials, our products' beauty, long life, and performance make them a worthwhile investment.
Is gray the only color option?
Absolutely not! We utilize color pigments specifically formulated for concrete, allowing us to design a piece in almost any color you can imagine. Our color palette portfolio (link below) includes swatches of our most popular color options, including Standard, Premium, and Ultra Premium categories. Should you desire a custom color, we can create one based on your design.
What makes hand-crafted concrete so appealing for both residential and commercial settings?
Cement-based concrete surfaces date back to the Romans, and concrete remains the most commonly used building material in the world due to its performance and versatility. Advancements in technology have allowed ways to enhance strength while reducing weight. Newer finishing techniques and limitless color options make it an ideal option for more applications than ever before. Concrete surfaces also have character. Like a commissioned art piece, no two pieces are ever the same and each develops a unique character from the moment it’s cast. Over time your surface will continue to come to life; aging beautifully as a part of your environment.
What if I’m looking for a more rustic look and feel?
The versatility of concrete allows us to satisfy any palate. By utilizing different casting methods, raw materials, and finish methods, we can create pieces that fit into any design style.
Are there restrictions on where Elevation concrete can be used?
There are no restrictions on where our concrete surfaces can be used. However, as with any other natural stone surface, it is important to make sure your cabinetry will support the weight. Our surfaces are also great for outdoor use!*
*If your outdoor kitchen or table is within the path of direct sunlight, color choice should be limited to the lighter color range. This ensures that the surfaces remain cooler and usable, even on those hot summer days.
What is care and maintenance like for an Elevation Concrete surface?
We offer a variety of finishing options to suit the specific performance or appearance preferences of each client. All our surfaces are sealed before installation. Once sealed, our surfaces require the same care and cleaning that any countertop surface should receive, but do not require any special treatment.
Like most natural stone products, acid presents the biggest risk of discoloration and staining. We recommend that acidic spills be quickly cleaned up to avoid etching the surface. Avoid cutting on the surface with any knife, as it may break the sealed finish and leave your counter vulnerable to staining. While you may place hot pots on the surface, keep in mind that there is the possibility of damaging or discoloring the protective coating. For that reason, it is a good idea to use a hot pad or trivet.
Is Elevation concrete durable? I’m concerned that it may crack or chip.
Unlike the concrete you see on most sidewalks, our proprietary mix design utilizes the most up-to-date techniques and admixtures to minimize the risk of structural cracks or chips to your countertops. With normal countertop usage and proper care, you should not experience either of these issues.
